"Two defendants were sentenced in Marin County for a roofing scheme that stole more than $340,000 from four county residents, the Marin County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday. John McNamara, 49, of Livermore and Dean Morgan, 34, of Limerick, Ireland, will each serve three years and eight months in state prison. The sentence includes their convictions for fraud cases in Sacramento County and Colorado."
"The defendants pleaded guilty to charges of burglary and grand theft, the prosecution office said. Authorities said they claimed to work for a fictitious San Francisco company and persuaded victims to enter roofing and construction contracts. The victims the Marin County case were 78 to 85 years old. McNamara and Morgan asked victims to pay "excessively large" down payment deposits and would typically disappear from jobs after doing little or no work, the District Attorney's Office said."
Two individuals were convicted and sentenced to three years and eight months in state prison for orchestrating a roofing scheme that stole more than $340,000 from four Marin County residents. The convictions include related fraud cases in Sacramento County and Colorado. The defendants pleaded guilty to burglary and grand theft. They claimed to work for a fictitious San Francisco company and persuaded victims, aged 78 to 85, to enter into roofing contracts. The defendants collected excessively large down payments, often disappearing after doing little or no work. State law limits contractor down payments to $1,000 or 10% of the contract price. Defense counsel declined comment.
