Eric and Vicki Cordes, both in their 60s, were shot and killed in their garage in Simi Valley around noon after witnesses saw an unidentified gunman open fire. A black Honda Civic was observed fleeing the scene. Between 2:30 and 3 p.m., the vehicle was located in Chino fully engulfed, with a badly burned man found nearby; that incident is being investigated as a suspected suicide. Investigators linked the vehicle to the Simi Valley double homicide, recovered a handgun near the burning car for ballistics testing, and have not released a suspect, motive, or identification of the burned man.
