Phillips 66 has been indicted for allegedly discharging hundreds of thousands of gallons of industrial wastewater into the sewer system while failing to report the incident, resulting in significant environmental concerns.
The company faces serious legal repercussions, including multiple counts of violating the Clean Water Act, and could incur fines of up to $2.4 million, alongside potential probation.
The indictment claims that on Nov. 24, 2020, Phillips 66 discharged 310,000 gallons of wastewater into the sewer, exceeding permitted limits by more than 300 times before failing to report it.
Following further violations, the corporation acknowledged the discharges but did not adequately address or report the extent of these pollution incidents despite repeated notices from the sanitation district.
