Deadly Tahoe storm drops over 5 feet of snow in 3-day stretch
"We had several feet of snow up in the Sierra, even in the Tahoe Basin, and Truckee areas, and then even down in Reno where we had reports of anywhere from 6 to 8 inches,"
"While we're excited to see this much snowfall on the West Shore, storms of this size also mean a lot of work behind the scenes to safely get the mountain ready to reopen,"
"Our mountain operations, grooming, and ski patrol teams are out early digging out lifts, clearing access areas, assessing terrain, and preparing the resort so we can welcome everyone back safely."
"It's for safety concerns, as well as for our team to perform avalanche mitigation and try to get the mountain open as safely and quickly as possible so our guests can come out and ski and ride,"
An intense winter storm struck the Sierra Nevada and Tahoe region over three days, leaving multiple feet of snow and closing highways and resorts. The National Weather Service reported several feet in the Sierra and Tahoe Basin, with Reno receiving 6 to 8 inches in places. Homewood Mountain Resort recorded 44 inches in 24 hours and a 68-inch storm total, temporarily closing lifts while crews cleared lifts and assessed terrain. Palisades Tahoe saw 3 feet between Sunday and Tuesday, added 39 inches between Tuesday and Wednesday for a 61-inch storm total, and reopened lower mountain routes midday Wednesday. Diamond Peak closed early Tuesday afternoon.
