Candlelight vigil honors 4-year-old boy killed in Burlingame chain-reaction crash
"Shock, denial, anger and resentment. Those were the raw emotions that washed over us immediately after the tragedy two weeks ago,"
"Loving memories of Ayden, innocent laughter of his brother, the support from near and far. Those formed a seawall around us. Without that we'd be crushed by relenting waves of sorrow and grief,"
"This was one of the last photos of him on his mother's phone, he was participating in Burlingame Library's 'A Thousand Books Before Kindergarten' program and had just finished his first 100 and was so proud and excited to turn in his worksheet."
"In due course we'd like to unite the community and improve pedestrian safety here in California,"
"That's for Ayden's brother, Ayden's friends, and Ayden's city."
Ayden Fang, age 4, died August 8 after a car jumped the sidewalk and struck him outside a restaurant in downtown Burlingame. Police say the crash was a chain-reaction involving an e-bike and the car struck two children who were playing. A 6-year-old girl from another family was also hit and survived. A memorial now marks the crash site and hundreds gathered for a candlelit vigil. Family members recalled Ayden’s recent accomplishments and described him as disciplined and thoughtful. The family vows to work with the community to improve pedestrian safety in California.
