Mike Yurochko, a victim of the Kincade fire in Northern California, recounts the trauma of watching his home burn while being away. The aftermath was compounded by a looting incident, which led to complicated insurance claims related to both fire damage and theft. Fueled by his experiences, Yurochko is now dedicated to helping others who have lost everything in the recent Los Angeles wildfires. He emphasizes the importance of understanding the daunting task of rebuilding, including paperwork and dealing with insurance processes under stressful conditions.
Those moments, compounded with the fire, started their journey to the unknown of what it takes to rebuild one's life-apart from the memories lost and a physical structure reduced to rubble.
Each claim on its own was very complicated, and then the confluence of both of them together, where the way insurance companies are structured, they actually are managed through very different departments.
