California man suspected of stealing 85 koi fish from restaurant
Briefly

A 42-year-old man from Yucaipa was arrested for stealing approximately 85 koi from the Oak House Restaurant in San Bernardino County. The restaurant, which has been in business for 30 years, lost the koi – a key attraction for 25 years. Owner Silvia Duarte reported noticing the koi population decreasing before suspecting theft. Police recovered five koi but Duarte fears others were sold. The average koi price is $225. The suspect remains in custody, with bail set at $30,000, and investigations continue to identify additional suspects.
Duarte noticed the number of koi in the property's pond dwindling but called the police on Saturday after suspecting the theft had been going on for several nights.
Duarte is hoping for the rest of the koi to be returned but fears they've already been sold. The average price for large koi at California retailers is $225.
