California Governor Gavin Newsom has authorized a $2.5 billion relief package aimed at helping Los Angeles recover from recent wildfires that have devastated the region. The funds will support cleanup, inspection permits for rebuilding, and other recovery efforts in the wake of fires, particularly the Eaton fire and the Hughes fire that have collectively resulted in multiple fatalities and extensive property damage. Newsom’s initiative comes amidst criticism regarding disaster management and coincides with an upcoming visit from Donald Trump, who is urged to expedite federal aid without conditions. State officials emphasize the importance of collaboration over political disputes.
I urge President Trump to provide federal dollars quickly without conditions. We need to come together to rebuild this great American city.
This is not the time for politics and political games... we need to come together to rebuild.
I expect the president to do the right thing and reimburse the state for the money it's spending on wildlife-recovery efforts.
The money is meant to speed up the cleanup and debris-removal processes in the areas leveled by those two fires.
