California energy prices are among highest in the US, new study says. Heat wave won't help

California residents face high energy costs but spend less monthly than other states due to efficiency. Despite having some of the highest energy prices per unit, the state ranks 41st for total monthly energy costs, with an average bill of $476.

WalletHub's study shows California ranking first for motor fuel prices per unit and third for electricity prices per unit. However, the average monthly electricity cost for Californians is $145, lower than in some other states.
