Bay Area weather: No rain is forecast through Christmas - Is it time to worry about drought?
"We had a really wet November,"
"We were above normal early on. Now it's possible we could go 0-for-December. It's been feast or famine."
"Some years you get an early winter and good momentum going into the holidays,"
"Sometimes its a little slower. Mother Nature is a little late to the game this year."
An atmospheric river delivered heavy rain to Washington and Oregon but bypassed California, leaving the state dry after mid-November storms. The Bay Area logged 18 consecutive rain-free days through Monday, with forecasts showing about 16 more dry days through at least Christmas Eve, potentially producing a 34-day dry stretch starting in November or December. Historical comparisons place such a stretch among the longest since 1849. The Sierra Nevada snowpack is at 25% of average statewide and 7% in the Northern Sierra. Some ski areas opened with man-made snow while others remain closed, and drought conditions remain uncertain at this early stage.
