"A Santa Rosa man who was sentenced in 2023 to 16 years in prison for driving under the influence and causing a chain-reaction crash that caused multiple injuries two years prior died late last month in state custody, according to officials. Augie Lamar Delariva, 34, died about 7:10 pm. Oct. 29 in Pleasant Valley State Prisonin Fresno County, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The Fresno County Coroner's Office is investigating his cause of death, which is pending toxicology testing results,"
"According to prosecutors, traffic was at a standstill but Delariva did not slow his Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, which was going about 70 mph, and slammed into a Toyota Corolla. The impact pushed the Toyota into another stopped vehicle. Six occupants in the two vehicles were injured. Delariva pleaded no contest to felony charges of DUI causing injury relating to the crash and admitted to four charge enhancements for great bodily injury and two multiple-victim enhancements, officials said."
Augie Lamar Delariva, 34, died about 7:10 p.m. Oct. 29 while incarcerated at Pleasant Valley State Prison in Fresno County. The Fresno County Coroner's Office is investigating his cause of death, with toxicology testing pending. The collision occurred in April 2021 on northbound Highway 101 near Golf Course Drive south of Santa Rosa, when traffic was stopped and Delariva, driving a Chevrolet Silverado at about 70 mph, struck a Toyota Corolla and pushed it into another vehicle. Six occupants were injured. Delariva pleaded no contest to felony DUI causing injury, admitted multiple enhancements, and was sentenced in 2023 to 16 years. His family did not respond to requests for comment.
