The individual was reportedly riding with a group of snowmobilers when an avalanche occurred in Truckee close to Johnson Peak and Castle Peak near Donner Pass. The man was buried under snow for several minutes, according to the sheriff's office, before he was pulled out by his companions."
"The Nevada County Sheriff's Office said it was alerted to the incident via a 911 call from Washoe County in Nevada just after 2 p.m. on Monday, reporting a potential avalanche with one person still missing. In total, about 45 personnel, including the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue team and the Nevada County Sheriff's Search and Rescue team, responded to the scene."
"They had three Sno-Cats, three snowmobile teams and multiple ski teams, according to a news release from the Nevada County Sheriff's Office. However, the individual did not survive their injuries despite lifesaving efforts. His identity has not yet been released, pending family notification. Officials said the scene remains active as they work to safely remove the deceased individual, and they cautioned that more avalanches are possible in the area."
