Arrests made in San Jose, Milpitas and San Ramon smash-and-grab robberies, police say
""This was not just an attack on a hard-working family," SJPD Asst. Chief Brian Shab said. "It was an attack on a legacy of business that represents the American dream.""
""We scoured the entire Bay Area, conducting surveillance, serving search warrants and working day and night with our law-enforcement partners," Shab said. "And today, that persistence has delivered results.""
""It's a crime of cowards -- people who hide behind chaos and hope speed and numbers will shield them from"
Seven suspects with Bay Area ties were arrested for a dangerous smash-and-grab at Kim Hung jewelry store in early September. The 88-year-old owner suffered a heart attack and a stroke and now faces medical bills and $50,000–$100,000 in repair costs. More than 100 officers from five agencies across seven cities assisted in surveillance, served search warrants, and executed arrests. Some suspects have been linked to other robberies, including incidents in Milpitas and San Ramon; one San Ramon suspect faced an $8 million bail. Authorities report at least 30 violent jewelry-store robberies in California since March, including 16 smash-and-grabs.
