
Multiple earthquakes struck the Bay Area Friday evening within a 30-minute span, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The first quake occurred at 7:49 p.m. with a preliminary magnitude of 3.8 and an epicenter nearly three miles southeast of San Ramon. Minutes later at 7:56 p.m. a 4.0-magnitude event was recorded about 3.1 miles from San Ramon. Subsequent tremors registered smaller magnitudes, with the latest noted at 8:10 p.m. registering 2.9 and an epicenter 2.7 miles from San Ramon. The sequence follows about 90 small earthquakes that affected San Ramon in November.
