Alhambra police officer Alec Sanders, 28, died early Thursday after a car chase ended in a traffic collision. Sanders had been with the Alhambra Police Department for eight months and previously served roughly a year with the Long Beach Police Department. The collision occurred just after 3 a.m. at the intersection of West Valley Boulevard and Edgewood Drive and involved the officer's patrol cruiser and an SUV carrying three people; one passenger died at the scene and two were hospitalized with major and moderate injuries. Sanders was taken to Los Angeles General Medical Center. Local leaders and community members mourned the loss and noted his dedication, reliability and positive impact on the close-knit city.
