"Steady precipitation will taper off to showers by late this afternoon and become confined to the mountains by late tonight," the weather service posted in a Thursday morning forecast."
"Since Monday, a series of storms has drenched much of California and dumped feet of snow in the Sierra. It's led to a deadly avalanche in the Sierra and a person dying in San Bernardino County when they were swept away in fast moving waters. While the worst of the storms has passed, people need to remain cautious while out in the slick and cold conditions, officials said."
Forecasters predict rain and cold across California Thursday, with steady rain in Ventura and Los Angeles counties and lower-than-normal snow levels that could affect Grapevine commuters. Precipitation will taper to showers by late afternoon and become confined to the mountains by tonight. Mountain snow near 3,500 feet is possible, and winds could still bring down trees despite being weaker than the prior storm. Winter storm warnings continue for the San Bernardino mountains and the Sierra with additional snowfall and ongoing avalanche danger. Friday should be dry but cold with possible morning valley frost.
