District employees discovered the damage around 10:45 a.m. Sunday and reported it to police. The vandalism caused about $5,000 in damage, including a broken skylight, torn curtains and a damaged TV. Slater Middle School closed in June after the 2024-25 school year as part of board decisions to close four campuses to help offset a projected $20 million budget shortfall. Surveillance footage identified five 15-year-old Montgomery High School sophomores; they were removed from class, arrested and booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of felony vandalism, burglary and conspiracy. Police did not release the boys' names because of their age and declined to disclose motives during the ongoing investigation.
