District employees discovered extensive vandalism at the closed Herbert Slater Middle School around 10:45 a.m. Sunday, reporting broken skylights, torn curtains, a damaged TV and destruction across the gym, locker rooms, weight room, wrestling room and stage. Slater closed in June after the 2024-25 school year as part of four campus closures authorized to help offset a projected $20 million budget shortfall. Surveillance footage review led staff and police to identify five Montgomery High sophomore students as suspects. The five 15-year-olds were removed from class, arrested and booked into juvenile hall on felony vandalism, burglary and conspiracy charges; names and motive details were withheld during the ongoing investigation.
