2-year-old boy with autism missing after California flash flood sweeps away car
"My son drove home with my grandson. I guess the road was -- something happened in the road. All I know is that my son's car ended up -- the bumper's down here, near the bridge."
"He got my grandson out. My son went under. Now my grandson's missing."
"If you guys can, if you live in the area, if you have bright lights... anything that can help us look through the dirt, the mud - anything to help us look for him and find him, we greatly appreciate it."
On Sept. 19, 2025, a 2-year-old boy, Xavier Padilla, was swept away by floodwaters near Barstow, California, after his father attempted to drive through high water. The father escaped but was pulled under and later rescued, treated at a hospital, and released. Family members described the scene near a bridge where the car's bumper was found. Searchers suspended official operations at night; volunteers continued searching with requests for bright lights and equipment. Xavier is about 46 inches tall, 28 pounds, has light brown curly hair, wears black clothing and Nike shoes, and is autistic and nonverbal.
