""I wish kids weren't the target," Hartin-Swart said. "I really wish it was different in this day and age. I don't know that they when people steal things from a little league, I don't think they understand the magnitude of what that does to a nonprofit, a completely volunteer organization. Just across the board, I don't think people understand the magnitude of that.""
""I am thankful for the baseball community," Hartin-Swart said. "It's small, but it is mighty. I'm thankful for that.""
""I'd have to say it's super disappointing, heartbreaking," she said."
Treeview Little League's clubhouse in Hayward was broken into and vandalized early Friday, resulting in about $15,000 in stolen equipment, including new practice and player gear, a PA system, snack bar items used for fundraising, and a commercial-grade popcorn machine. Surveillance video shows thieves leaving with items in a cart, with at least one person wearing a mask. The baseball season begins in about a month, and the community has donated more than $5,000 via GoFundMe. The team previously padlocked doors during the COVID-19 pandemic and had to change locks again. Hayward Police are investigating and request tips at 510-293-7176.
