Southeastern using LiDAR to map its station platforms to improve step-free access

Southeastern is taking significant steps to improve train accessibility with plans to implement new trains featuring level boarding. To aid this initiative, they are meticulously mapping all station platforms using advanced LiDAR technology combined with AI image processing. This collaboration with Cordel aims to accurately measure platform heights and curves, addressing the varied infrastructure built over decades. By continuously collecting data from Network Rail maintenance trains, Southeastern will support manufacturers in optimizing train designs to facilitate easier boarding for passengers across the metro network.

Now our sensors are 'there for the ride', we are capturing data from trains in service. This data feeds our AI pipeline, so we can process it into the crucial measurements approved by Network Rail and meeting Southeastern's needs.
