The legislation outlines EU-wide measures designed to ensure that AI is used safely and ethically, and includes limitations on the use of live facial recognition and new transparency requirements for developers of foundation AI models like ChatGPT.
The following use cases are banned under the AI Act: Biometric categorisation systems that use sensitive characteristics, untargeted scraping of facial images, emotion recognition in the workplace and educational institutions, social scoring based on social behavior or personal characteristics, AI systems that manipulate human behavior to circumvent free will, AI used to exploit the vulnerabilities of people due to their age, disability, social or economic situation.
