Cinch, the leading online retailer of used cars in the UK, has reported a dramatic shift in car-buying trends amid cold weather conditions. Data comparing filtered searches revealed a significant increase in interest in SUVs (20.5%) and four-wheel drive vehicles (44.6%). Furthermore, heated seats searches also rose by 20.5%. Sam Sheehan, cinch's motoring editor, noted this shift indicates a growing awareness among drivers regarding the inadequacies of their vehicles during winter scenarios, suggesting that this trend of looking for winter-ready cars may continue as cold weather persists.
The freezing weather that carried over into the new year has been a wake-up call for many drivers, with a realisation that their cars aren't completely fit for purpose.
Searches for four-wheel drive cars are up nearly 45%, and with more cold weather around the corner, it's safe to say the trend towards winter-ready motors will probably continue.
