Jamie Dimon hired Todd Combs away from Berkshire Hathaway in December to lead a $10 billion investment group within JPMorgan's Security and Resiliency Initiative focused on accelerating manufacturing. Combs had been at Berkshire since 2010 and served as one of two investment managers responsible for picking stocks. Combs previously ran a hedge fund and had also served nine years on JPMorgan's board. Combs was positioned as a key leader during Berkshire's succession planning to assist Greg Abel. Dimon called Warren Buffett, who reportedly said that if Combs were leaving, at least he was going to JPMorgan. The hire is notable given Berkshire's decentralized culture and long executive tenures.
