Fernando Fernandez plans a review of Unilever's top 200 leaders and expects up to a quarter to be replaced based on performance. The company has cut roughly 18% of its white-collar workforce over the past 18 months to increase accountability. Unilever is shifting from a geography-led structure to a category-led model that runs brands as full business units. Leadership layers are being reduced so fewer people make decisions and leaders are expected to decide faster with higher risk tolerance. Fernandez identified multiple pockets of mediocrity and said senior management knows the names and contacts of key unit leaders.
