Chancellor Rachel Reeves emphasized that despite fears of rising protectionism from Trump’s new tariffs, the UK remains committed to a robust economic relationship with the US.
Reeves noted that the current economic landscape indicates a shift towards domestic manufacturing and economic sovereignty in the US, describing it as 'realism' rather than outright protectionism.
Reeves stated, 'Our trading relationship and our economic relationship with the United States is absolutely crucial...The US is our single biggest trading partner, with trade flows of £311bn a year.'
She added, 'Free trade access is what makes us richer as societies,' underscoring the UK's capacity to influence the global trading framework.
