Purdue Pharma, Sacklers to pay $7.4bn in new opioid settlement
Briefly

Purdue Pharma, in agreement with the Sackler family and legal representatives, will pay up to $7.4 billion to settle lawsuits addressing the opioid crisis. This settlement exceeds $1 billion compared to a prior offer rejected by the Supreme Court. Of this, the Sacklers will contribute $6.5 billion, and Purdue will pay $900 million. The deal aims to compensate victims and assist in combating the opioid epidemic, pending court approval. Previous settlements, totaling around $50 billion, also aimed at addressing the crisis and funding treatments for those affected.
The deal announced on Thursday represents an increase of more than $1bn over a previous settlement that was rejected last year by the United States Supreme Court.
We are extremely pleased that a new agreement has been reached that will deliver billions of dollars to compensate victims, abate the opioid crisis, and deliver treatment and overdose rescue medicines that will save lives.
