Public sector workers need above-inflation pay rises, says TUC chief
Briefly

Paul Nowak stated that public sector pay restoration is a legitimate goal, emphasizing the need for above-inflation awards to attract and keep essential staff.
He highlighted that merely reversing 14 years of wage decline wouldn't suffice, as public sector pay has experienced an average real-terms cut of 3.6%.
Nowak criticized the Conservative Party for mishandling pay review bodies and expressed hope that unions could engage constructively with the new government.
He emphasized that without addressing staffing issues, particularly in crucial public services like schools and hospitals, rebuilding these services would be impossible.
