IT unemployment tops national average despite hiring surge

Recent analysis from Janco Associates reveals that IT hiring is not in a downward trend, contrary to job numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS's reclassification of job titles has resulted in a loss of more than 111,000 positions reported for November and December 2024. Janco CEO Victor Janulaitis notes that many IT professionals who faced unemployment recently found jobs quickly as companies seek to fill vacancies. However, the IT unemployment rate stands at 5.7%, suggesting economic uncertainty still affects hiring, despite 11,000 new roles added in January.

Despite revisions showing a decline in IT jobs, Janco reported the addition of 11,000 new roles in January amid rising unemployment numbers.
