To meet demand, Amazon went on a hiring binge, employing an average of 1,400 new workers per day at one point. From January to October 2020, Amazon hired 427,300 new people, increasing its workforce to more than 1.2 million people globally, which was more than a 50 percent rise from the previous year."
Amazon is laying off about 14,000 employees, confirming a reduction after earlier media reports that suggested up to 30,000 corporate cuts. Beth Galetti, senior vice president of people experience and technology, said most impacted employees will get 90 days to search for internal roles and that the company is working to support affected staff.
