Voters in Alaska and Missouri approved measures to gradually raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour, indicating a growing movement for higher wages even in traditionally red states.
In Missouri, the minimum wage will increase to $15 by January 2026, while Alaska's minimum wage will follow suit by July 2027, both adjusting for inflation afterward.
Both states will now require employers to provide paid sick leave, with Alaska and Missouri mandating one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked.
Despite these changes, experts point out that even $15 per hour is insufficient for individuals to support themselves fully in most areas, highlighting ongoing wage disparity.
