Google Wallet will begin beta testing a digital ID feature, initially using U.S. passports for TSA checkpoints, with plans for broader applications in identity verification.
In addition to digital ID testing, Google Wallet will allow users to add select prepaid commuter benefit cards and automate transit ticket imports from Gmail.
While introducing a digital ID, Google emphasizes that it is not a replacement for a physical ID, underscoring the need to carry both.
Users in additional states will soon be able to store state-issued IDs in Wallet, with notifications for any changes to passes or messages.
