Turnover rates in higher education have started to decrease, although not yet back to pre-pandemic levels, possibly due to retention measures like pay increases.
The voluntary faculty turnover rates have consistently been lower than staff over the past seven years, with part-time, nonexempt staff having the highest rates.
From 2017-18 to 2022-23, part-time, nonexempt staff turnover rates surged past 20% but fell back to 15% in 2023-24. Tenure-track faculty turnover rates have remained below 5% consistently.
