According to the survey, only 18% of businesses considered themselves experts in exporting last year, a significant decline from 24% the previous year, marking the lowest level since the Trade and Co-operation Agreement with the EU.
The rise in businesses reporting low levels of exporting knowledge increased from 23% to 28% in just a year, indicating a growing knowledge gap among exporters following the UK's EU exit.
Richard Hyde emphasized the necessity for higher export levels from smaller businesses, stating that achieving these levels should be a primary goal for the government’s growth mission.
Gareth Thomas highlighted the urgency of enhancing digital trade support for firms, noting, 'We are working with industry to increase exports and support small businesses in global markets.'
