"My neighbors came over and I drank tequila with them,"
"My new position was to be the face of the brand, but get out of the day-to-day,"
"I don't have girls waiting for me at the tennis courts, or a book group,"
Bobbi Brown built a billion-dollar makeup brand and left Estée Lauder in 2016 feeling pushed out. She regarded the outcome as a de facto firing despite no formal termination. Her contract was canceled and she received a new role as the face of the brand without involvement in daily operations. A 25-year non-compete remained with roughly four years left, limiting association with other makeup companies. She experienced anger and hurt, socialized with neighbors over tequila, explored wellness and dance, published a memoir titled Still Bobbi, rediscovered purpose, and ultimately launched a clean beauty brand.
