The Brooklyn Nets faced their fifth straight loss against the San Antonio Spurs, losing 127-113 despite Cam Thomas and D'Angelo Russell returning from injury. Although Thomas led with 24 points, the Nets' defense proved inadequate, allowing over 60 points in the first half and consistently surrendering more than 115 points in recent games. With Spurs star Victor Wembanyama sidelined, Devin Vassell stepped up with a career-high 37 points. Nets coach Jordi Fernandez expressed frustration over their defensive performance, emphasizing the need for significant improvement as they work through their struggles.
"Our defense was not good enough and that's what we have to embrace right now," ceded frustrated Brooklyn coach Jordi Fernandez. "Right now, we're getting better offensively, but this was one of our worst performances (defensively)."
"We should have been better getting (Vassell) off the 3-point line, dribbling more," Fernandez noted, emphasizing the need for improvements in defensive strategy.
