Tony Clanton, 51, was convicted by a federal jury for his role in a series of armed robberies and attempted robberies across Staten Island, Brooklyn, and New Jersey between January and July 2023. After removing his ankle monitor and evading arrest for five weeks, Clanton was finally apprehended alongside accomplice Lawrence Dotson during a police raid. Prosecutors highlighted the traumatic impact of their crimes, which involved threatening victims, including children, with firearms. The case received significant attention due to the extensive evidence presented that confirmed Clanton's guilt and the diligent efforts of law enforcement agencies.
Over a six-month period, Clanton directed a cruel and violent spree in New York City and New Jersey that left terrorized robbery victims in his wake, including two children who watched as their parents were shot at or menaced with guns.
Thanks to exceptional investigative work by the FBI and the NYPD, the defendant was identified, apprehended, and rightly convicted today by jurors who were presented with a mountain of evidence that demonstrated his crime wave and overwhelmingly proved his guilt.
