This Park Near NYC Has More Cherry Blossom Trees Than Washington, D.C.-and It's a Must-visit This April

Branch Brook Park, located in Newark, New Jersey, boasts over 5,300 cherry blossom trees, significantly surpassing Washington, D.C.'s 3,800. Known for its beauty, the park holds the largest collection of cherry blossoms in the U.S. and celebrated its 49th Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival this year, with peak blooms occurring through April 18. Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted in 1867, it is historically significant as the first county park in the nation. The park's cherry blossom legacy began in 1927 with a donation of 2,500 trees.
This year the park celebrated the 49th anniversary of its Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival, with events continuing through April 30.
Located just about 12 miles west of New York City, the 360-acre green space boasts more than 5,300 trees in 18 varieties.
Unlike many other areas where peak bloom is waning or has already passed, right now is the heart of Branch Brook's flowering season.
The park first started blossoming in 1927 when 2,500 cherry trees were donated by philanthropist Caroline Bamberger Fuld.
