The Brooklyn Community Pride Center hosts a trans and gender non-conforming swim night at the pool in the Major R. Owens Health & Wellness Community Center, offering a safe space where individuals can enjoy swimming without fear of discrimination.
Since its inception in August 2022, the monthly event has grown to attract around 40 people, providing a comforting environment for trans and nonbinary individuals to swim without concerns about their appearance being criticized.
Sam Grasland, a data scientist, expressed the significance of the event by mentioning that swimming can pose challenges for queer individuals undergoing body changes, emphasizing the importance of having a safe location where they can appreciate the beauty of swimming without facing judgment.
