A water leak was reported at around 3:47 a.m. near Bay 37th Street and Cropsey Avenue, leading to a sinkhole appearing shortly after.
The NYPD responded to the sinkhole at approximately 4:11 a.m., which had developed in the Gravesend road, shortly after the initial water leak.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, although a tow truck was required to remove a vehicle trapped in the collapsed roadway.
Officials confirmed that the sinkhole formed as a direct result of the earlier water leak that compromised the roadway's integrity.
