On May 18, the Bay Ridge community proudly hosted the 71st annual Norwegian Day Parade, celebrating the signing of Norway's constitution. The event began at 1:30 p.m., displaying vibrant Nordic pride with participants waving flags and featuring grand marshals Victoria Hofmo and Lars Nilsen. The parade included numerous organizations, such as the NYPD and Viking associations, culminating in a display of culture and heritage. Co-chair Hofmo expressed gratitude for the attendees, while co-chair Rutuelo highlighted how many return to relive fond memories and honor Norwegian contributions to NYC.
"The parade was colorful, jubilant, and a wonderful way to honor the Norwegian legacy of Bay Ridge and beyond," Hofmo said.
"Participants and spectators travel from Washington and Connecticut to take a walk down memory lane as they return to Bay Ridge for a weekend of festivities," Rutuelo said.
"We are so grateful that folks came from the tri-state area to participate, including a SONS of Norway Lodge from northern New York and another from Washington, D.C.," Hofmo commented.
"I can't tell you how many people come back every year. They come back with more family [and] friends," Rutuelo added.
