Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez and New York lawmakers are advocating for striking SkyHop Global shuttle drivers who face poor working conditions and retaliation from management. After months of stalled negotiations over wages and union recognition, the drivers initiated a strike in November 2024. Teamsters Local 210, representing the drivers, reports over 20 unfair labor practice charges against SkyHop. The drivers, crucial for airport shuttle services, voted to unionize in May 2024 but remain without a contract nearly a year later, prompting calls for immediate negotiations.
It is time for meaningful negotiations to take place in order to achieve a basic agreement that guarantees every employee fair pay, job security and union protection.
SkyHop management launched a relentless and illegal attack on worker rights and basic human decency. The company is required by the National Labor Relations Act to negotiate in good faith, but it refuses to do so.
