Council Member Susan Zhuang reported that nearly a hundred residents from Bensonhurst, Brooklyn visited her office in December regarding stolen federal food aid benefits.
Zhuang highlighted that her office managed over 800 cases of SNAP fraud over the summer, mostly affecting immigrant seniors, indicating the broader issue at hand.
Calling for action, Zhuang stated, "It is unacceptable that no city agency has been able to get this under control... my office does not have the resources to properly handle all these cases."
Zhuang emphasized the need for greater involvement from state and federal agencies to ensure stricter security measures for protecting SNAP benefits.
