Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Academy in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, will close at the end of the current school year due to declining enrollment and unsustainable financial trends. With student numbers dropping sharply—from 174 students in 2020 to just 85 expected for the coming school year—the financial burden became too great, as it would cost the school $11,600 per student against a tuition rate of $5,500. The Diocese of Brooklyn confirmed the decision after thorough analysis. Families will be assisted in relocating their children to nearby Catholic schools.
Since 1917, Our Lady of Perpetual Help has been educating students in both the faith and academics, and this decision to close will not erase the success of the past 108 years.
The pattern of student enrollment and the academy's financial situation made recovery impossible, confirming that the school could not sustain its operations any longer.
With enrollment so low, OLPH would have been spending more than twice the cost of tuition on each student, making it financially unsustainable.
We are committed to assisting every family in furthering their child's education in a Catholic setting, ensuring a smooth transition for students.
