NYC Mayor Defends Use of NYPD Gang Database
Briefly

In response to a violent incident in Times Square involving teen gang members, Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch emphasized the necessity of the police department's gang database for crime prevention. Following a violent robbery, where officers were ambushed by a gang known as Los Diablos de la 42, both officials defended the database as crucial in identifying suspects. Despite calls from social justice advocates to dismantle the database for allegedly targeting young people of color, Tisch insisted it is essential for public safety.
When someone openly assaults a police officer, you are attacking our symbol of safety, and it cannot be tolerated, said Adams.
It absolutely defies common sense that our City Council is looking to abolish this database, said Tisch. We need our City Council to stop legislating against our cops and to start legislating for public safety.
