This change, effective from April 1, aims to improve the livelihoods of over 60,000 workers by addressing low pay and limited protections. Implementation started last year, yielding an estimated $700 million addition in wages. City officials, including Mayor Eric Adams, emphasized the importance of supporting these workers while also ensuring profitability for the apps they serve.
Delivery workers, like all workers, deserve to be paid fair wages for their labor. The pay rate has been a success, increasing pay for hard-working New Yorkers.
