Nearly 900 jobs to come to East New York with $270M project
"The inspiration was to provide in one campus daycare, fresh grocery, pharmacy and medical outlets for seniors, intergenerational housing and most importantly, housing that provided economic mobility. We focused on creating an atmosphere that builds people that respect the dignity of people, that brings in life-enhancing programming."
"Every building having a fitness center, community lounge, accessible outdoor rooftop terraces and green spaces - that's the idea of having civic events and making this a destination. We're doing something that is unique, not only here in New York City, but across the country."
The Innovative Urban Village in East New York has begun construction as the neighborhood's largest redevelopment project in over a decade. Led by Gotham Organization and Monadnock Development with support from Pastor A.R. Bernard, the project will deliver nearly 900 affordable homes, including two-bedroom apartments renting under $1,000 and middle-income units below $2,000. Phase 1A includes a grocery store, pharmacy, retail space, and workforce development center, while Phase 2 will add daycare, playground, and performing arts center. All buildings feature fitness centers, community lounges, accessible rooftop terraces, and green spaces. The first two buildings are expected to begin leasing in June, creating a walkable, multi-generational neighborhood that integrates housing with essential services and life-enhancing programming.
