The New York City Health Department will conduct mosquito spraying in parts of Brooklyn to mitigate the rising risk of West Nile virus, detected across all boroughs.
Residents are advised to remain indoors during spraying, as the Health Department warns that those with respiratory issues may be particularly affected by the pesticides being used.
Eight out of ten individuals infected with West Nile virus show no symptoms, though some may experience moderate symptoms, with most recovering completely.
The spraying will occur in designated Brooklyn neighborhoods like Coney Island and Bay Ridge, and will proceed on Thursday if weather conditions inhibit Wednesday's application.
