"I started a bit at a time, but of course they didn't like it because people were starting to stop and they didn't like what they thought it would be... So the more that they complained, every year I added more and more." Lucy Spata reflects on how she began decorating her home in Dyker Heights, setting off a chain reaction that transformed the neighborhood's holiday spirit into an iconic tradition.
"It's fun to see all the lights and all the people that are here. Everyone is in the spirit," said Roman Lansao, who, alongside his partner Karen Guillermo, found the Dyker Heights Christmas lights through Google, captivated by the festive atmosphere.
"We saw pictures online, but it's even more magical in person," Karen Guillermo shared, illustrating the enchantment and joy visitors experience when viewing the Dyker Heights displays first-hand.
"More is more," Stephanie Hislop exclaimed about the dazzling displays of Dyker Heights. She and her partner Lorraine Purdi from Scotland described the lights as an unforgettable experience, unique to what they have seen elsewhere.
