"A group of moped-riding teen muggers held up other youths using a machete and their fists in a string of terrifying broad-daylight Brooklyn crimes last month, police said. One of the cruel thugs even grinned during a stick-up of 14- and 16-year-old boys."
"The youngest victims were two 13-year-olds, one of whom was punched in the face when he refused to hand over his jacket to five members of the callous crew around 3:30 p.m. Feb. 16 in Brighton Beach, police said. One of the goons flashed a knife before grabbing both teens' jackets, authorities said."
"The NYPD on Monday released photos of two of the suspects as seen during the final stick-up, one of whom is shown grinning, and the other with a black mask covering half of his face. All of the suspects are believed to be between the ages of 16 and 18, police said."
A group of teenage moped riders conducted a series of daytime street robberies across Brooklyn in February, targeting young victims. The suspects, believed to be between 16 and 18 years old, used machetes, knives, and physical violence to steal motorized scooters, jackets, and backpacks. Victims ranged from 13 to 19 years old. In one incident, a suspect grinned while robbing two teenagers. The crimes occurred in multiple neighborhoods including Bensonhurst, Bay Ridge, Brighton Beach, and Manhattan Beach. Police released photos of two suspects from the final robbery. The NYPD sought public information to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
